Industry Liaison Office

Central Institutions

Within the framework of the institutional strategy the university has set up various central scientific institutions. These institutions provide researchers of various disciplines with technical and networking infrastructures of the highest quality as well as excellent services.

With the platforms Personalized Medicine, Medical Technology, Environmental System Analytics and TüCAD2 networks between basic and application-oriented research are supported in the life and natural sciences. This combination of university and non-university research offers the possibility to further intensify the exchange of information. The networking of application-oriented research in the humanities and social sciences is supported by the broad-based fourth platform of Education-Society-Norms-Ethical Reflection.

In the core facilities - Quantitative Biology Center (QBiC) for life sciences, Light-Matter Interaction, Sensors & Analytics (LISA+) for the material sciences and the eScience Center for Social Sciences and Humanities - key components of the research infrastructure are brought together . The aim is to coordinate the work with the various highly complex technical devices in different, also non-university, research facilities, thereby generating synergies in research, training and knowledge transfer through more efficient use.

The integration of Industry-on-Campus professorships into the existing university structures began with the initiative of excellence. Within this framework, new cooperation projects with industry are being created at the interface between basic research and application orientation. This is an excellent opportunity for the University of Tübingen to explore new paths for industrial partnerships and to open up new perspectives for application-inspired research. Dr. Boris Hofmann of the company Aesculap AG has been researching intelligent neuroimplants at the Institute of Applied Physics since November 2012 with his working group on the first Industry-on-Campus Professorship. Dr. Siegfried Wahl from Zeiss Vision Holding GmbH holds the second Industry-on-Campus-Professorship. Since August 2014, he and his working group have been dealing with complex interactions of light waves, eyes, lenses and polished spectacle lenses which are far from being fully understood and the processing of a picture on the retina in the brain.
